6 Things to Know About the NNAS Application Process
If you want to practice nursing abroad, Canada is the ideal place for you. Canada is hiring international nurses in large numbers while also providing a lifetime opportunity to get Canadian citizenship. Additionally, nurses are getting paid handsomely and have a massive learning scope. This is a golden opportunity for all international nurses who want to learn, earn and settle in a foreign country.
However, there are some mandatory requirements and exams. The process starts with applying to National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS). You can apply for this online and submit the required documents. To make the process easier, we have compiled things you should know about the NNAS application process.
Who Can Apply to NNAS?
Every IEN, i.e., International Educated Nurse, can apply for NNAS. But first, you will have to make an account with NNAS. Also, the eligibility criteria for IEN insist you:
– Wish to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in Canada
– Have pursued nursing education from college or university outside of Canada
– Are applying to work as a nurse for the first time
If you fulfill these criteria, you can apply for NNAS. Note that it is mandatory to set up an account with NNAS, without which no IEN will be able to apply for NNAS.
What Are the Steps of the Application Process?
You have to follow only six steps to apply for NNAS, which can be done online.
1) Create an account on NNAS.
2) Fill out the online application.
3) Clear the payment.
4) Submit the document for verification.
5) Receive a report from the advisory.
6) Apply to a regulatory body.
Note that your application will be evaluated by the NNAS, after which they give you access to an Advisory Report that contains your evaluation.
Can I Apply in Multiple Provinces?
Yes, you can apply to more than one province, provided that you have created an account at NNAS. Check out Applications and Other Fees for detailed information. You may have to pay additional fees for the same.
How Many Hours of Nursing Practice Are Required for Registration?
The working hours are evaluated differently by each province and nursing group. Generally, the RN takes a four-year post-secondary university nursing program, while LPN takes two years for post-secondary nursing, and RPN takes two to four years.
Which Documents Are Required?
Document requirements will again differ by province. However, some acceptable photo identification includes:
– Passport
– Driver’s license
– Government-issued identification
– Birth certificate
– Legal name change affidavit
– Divorce decree

Can I See Someone to Discuss My Application?
Yes, you can make an appointment with a regulatory body to discuss your application. This is only possible if your file and Advisory Report are complete.
